Now that we are getting into the full swing of the Fall months, we are contemplating the many things for which we can feel grateful. It would make perfect sense that, as your friendly family dental team, we would throw out some little details about how your teeth are serving you, and why you should feel grateful for them. When you recognize all that your teeth do, you feel compelled to give them the TLC they need.
- Teeth bring out the best in your appearance. Let’s say you’re not completely over-the-moon in love with your smile. Maybe you’d like to brighten up your enamel or fix a chip. Even with some minor flaws, there is a lot to be grateful for. Your teeth do more than fill in your smile. These structures also fill out the contours of your lower face. Without their support, your cheeks and lips would have nowhere to go but in.
- Teeth help you stay healthy. One of the primary functions of teeth is to facilitate chewing. It’s incredibly easy to take this for granted! But if you have a problem that makes it painful to chew on one side, or anywhere in your mouth, your digestion is thrown off-balance. Poor digestion due to insufficient breakdown of food in the mouth can lead to stomach upset or, worse, some degree of malnutrition.
- Teeth keep you in the game. Humans are staying more active than ever before, and living longer, too. Older adults may not be ready to retire from their career, their business, or the dating scene, and research shows that a healthy, glowing smile is an asset to maintaining that cutting edge in all aspects of life. This is true regardless of your age.
We would like to believe that all of our patients brush their teeth every day. Hopefully, they all floss, as well. These are crucial actions for sustained oral health. Additionally, the smile is guarded with routine dental cleanings and exams.
